Rosetta Balestra e Angelo Zucchetto

An extraordinary woman and an exceptional merchant, Rosetta – or "Ma' Rusetta," as she was fondly called at the time – stood out for her diligence, perseverance, and innate business acumen, earning her a lasting reputation in this rugged and resilient land.

Leaving her maternal home in "Case Soprane," Rosetta met Angelo, the eldest son of the Zucchetto family – a hardworking and serious man whom she would marry not long after. This union represented the coming together of two of the most prominent families in the area, and their combined efforts laid the foundation for this enduring story.

It was with Angelo, on Sunday, June 6, 1897, that Rosetta founded the Santo Spirito, which initially served as a simple inn. Over the years, the establishment evolved, providing support primarily to local residents engaged in agricultural work, while also becoming a hub for the "tourism" of its era. Merchants, travellers, and clergy passing through the Valle Argentina found here a warm and welcoming refuge, complemented by a generous and authentic cuisine.

From the union of Rosetta and Angelo was born Antonio Zucchetto, who, together with his wife Chiarina, carried forward the family business. Angelo and Rosetta are remembered for their great perseverance and indomitable spirit, as well as for laying the cornerstone of this remarkable story that we are proud to share with you today.

They planted a seed in a rugged land, and from that seed grew a majestic tree that continues to provide shelter and nourishment to this day.
